CSS
and Tilly and the Wall met during various
performances on the European festival circuit. Meeting out of an
interest in each others music they became fast friends and soon after
shared a tour bus on a European tour. Having so much fun together
on the road they vowed to do it again in the states, and the Fall of
2008 provided them such an opportunity. Not wanting to miss out
on such a fun and unique tour, Rob Walters and his film crew
approached the bands with the idea of filming. CSS & Tilly
and the Wall Appearing Live Tonight! Is the resulting
document.
APPEARING LIVE TONIGHT! is a 73 min
concert documentary capturing these unique bands’ live show
experience. Containing live performances and all access backstage
footage APPEARING LIVE TONIGHT! introduces the viewer to CSS and Tilly
and the Wall in an intimate way never explored before with these
musicians. Exclusive interviews with the bands supplement the footage,
covering a range of topics, from each band’s beginnings to the current
double billingand what may lie ahead of them in the future.
CSS
Formed in 2003 in Soa Paulo
Brazil, a group of friends with an unquenchable thirst for good times
and indulgence in all things pop and art, CSS rose to notoriety with
the help of a thriving creative community, underground club scene and a
little thing called the internet. Pulling together their numerous
talents, the band drew legions of international followers entranced by
a universally accessible, albeit original and off the wall, look and
style.
Their debut album Cansei de Ser Sexy (Portuguese for
“Tired of Being Sexy” – something Beyoncé Knowles once said she
was) was released on Sub Pop in July of 2006, with their follow up
record Donkey following in Nov 2007.
Tilly & the
Wall are five people
from Omaha, NE who became friends exploring music. The band operates as
a collective with five songwriters, each with their own distinct
musical voice, whose talents come together to form something
extraordinary. They released their debut album, Wild Like
Children, in June 2004 on Conor Oberst’s label, Team Love. As one of
the first albums released on Team Love, Tilly and the Wall set a
precedent for the label’s identity: original, smart, exuberant and,
above all, easy to sing along to. Tilly and the Wall follwed up with
two subsequent records, Bottoms of Barrels in 2006 and “o” in
2008.
Rob Walters
is a filmmaker from Omaha
NE. His first venture into documentary filmmaking was a
co-directing effort on the film Spend An Evening with Saddle Creek.
(Plexifilm) This project led to many opportunities for Walters
ranging from work with Current TV to various music video
projects. Generally focusing his camera on unique aspects of
independent music Walters has had the opportunity to work with a
growing list of bands on various film projects, icluding The Good Life,
Neva Dinova, the Faint and previous projects with Tilly and the
Wall. This CSS/Tilly project marks Walters return to long form
documentary.
